- How can we be resilient in our own lives?

On your own or in groups of two, watch or read at least two of the following stories of resilience.
****I have provided a few examples of resilience, you can use another person (historical figure or someone you know who has demonstrated the traits of resilience).*****
On separate piece of paper, answer the following questions for each of the stories you choose.
TASK ONE:
- What does it mean to be resilient? (Post-it Note)
- Handout - Definition and Attributes of Resilience (you will refer to the characteristics of resilience handout throughout this unit)
- Quick Write: Describe a time in your life when you had to be resilient. What attributes did you draw on?
TASK TWO:
- We will watch Nelson Mandela's story of resilience together.
- Together we will answer the following questions:
- What struck you about the stories of resilience you saw or heard about?
- What challenge did the people/person face and how did they overcome this challenge?
- How did overcoming this struggle help make the people/person stronger?
- What characteristics helped make the people/person resilient?

Refugee Stories - Greece, Hungary, Croatia, and Austria. These are some of the refugee stories from all over Europe.
Syrian Americans - Read the stories of ten families of Syrian refugees selected for American resettlement.
Pediatric Cancer - These are stories gathered from the pediatrics department of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

You will interview and write about a member of the community or someone you know who inspires you and has shown resilience.
