- Independent reading
- Formal and creative writing
- Responding to literature in writing
- Self and peer assessment
- Personal responses and reflections.
- Group and class discussions
- Public speaking
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Students will be given continuous feedback about their learning in informal and formal tasks and activities.
- Students will be given the opportunity to improve on their assignments and work.
- I believe in a "No Zero" policy. I expect student work will be completed on time.
- Missing Assignments will be made up and completed during lunch, after school or during Flex Block.
- It is the responsibility of the student to complete all assigned work.
- It is the responsibility of the student to find out what assignments or work they missed during class.
- Students can view what assignments they may be missing and their grades through their MyEd account.
- It is important to me that you have success in this class. If you feel you have worked your hardest and still need additional time to complete an assignment then you need to come to me so we can come up with a plan. You need to come to talk with me before the assignment is due.

As a student in Ms. Beckett’s English 9 Class . . .
- I will show up to class with an open mind, properly equipped, and prepared to learn.
- I will try everything, even if it is challenging.
- I will listen respectfully to all speakers and I will speak respectfully, with conviction, when it is my turn.
- I will ask questions.
- I will respect my teacher and fellow students, their feelings, their person and their property. (In order to have a class that is safe and inclusive, we all must respect each other.)
- I will have fun!
